first collab of the year!! (with some extra narcissism)

A good friend of mine named Steven Brown did a series of sketches for Christmas presents last month and I was one of the fortunate kids that got one. I loved it so much that I promised I would color it. :)

all finished!
And in case you haven't noticed, I am commonly depicted with well groomed facial hair.

awitp: Fnished!

I finished this a few weeks ago and forgot to post. Oops!
This is my short before I aged it. After waiting all those hours rendering, it only seems fair to showcase some sweet lighting!

And here is what we've all been waiting for: the final product. My initial vision was to create a short that resembled a mix of claymation and oldschool filming and I'm pretty sure I have achieved just that. Enjoy!

Feel free to critique. I'm already aware of a few things that need fixing, but I'm not yet ready to dedicate more time to endless rendering. Hopefully I'll do another one in the future with some of my other characters, but until then thanks for reading!

awitp: rendering baby!!

In honor of me hoarding 6 computer in one of my school's computer lab to render the scenes for my short, I figured I'd post a few of my test renders. I've also selected my music today, all of my Fridays have been busy, busy. Look forward to watching a walk in the park next week! :D

a walk in the park: animation.

Hey all! I've animating the walk cycles for my dinos and I figured I'd post an update. These are not the final animations, but since I'm going to go back and delete frames anyways, you may as well see them in their more true form. Enjoy! :)

a walk in the park: preproduction & production.

Hey guys! Sorry it's been a minute, I've been quite busy with my college capstone.  This is the largest and most tedious project in my degree. So large in fact, that it has taken two quarters to complete.  Since I started this blog after my first quarter of work, I figured it'd be best to start from the beginning. :)

From the start I have known that I wanted to use my character Lord Beasley the British bronto and his more recently created wife, Lady Saffron the Serendipitous stegosaurus.  In order to save me time, I have been referring to them as Bronto and Stega.

After I drew them up, I storyboarded.  This was probably my favorite part of the project. :D

Of course, I was also modeling, rigging, lighting, and texturing my two characters as well as creating an environment for them to picnic in. This was tricky because I was taking classes on some of these techniques while working on (and the quarter after!) this project.

test render & aging
As you can see from my test render, I am going for a very cartoony, almost clay-mation look.  In order to create a more stop motion feel, I'll also be playing with the frame rate when I start my real renders.

Animation is the step I am in the middle of now, and I should be pretty much done by Friday. After that will be my cloth sim (see panels 15-18). I may end up posting a few playblasts, but for now I think I will leave you with my refined animatic. :)

Sorry this was such a long post, I promise in the future to aim for weekly updates in order to prevent another overload. Thanks for reading everyone!

Sassy, no? [now with more sass]

hereI had a day where I didn't have to do anything, so I sat around and did this while watching the discovery channel.

Honestly, I've never played Darkstalkers, but I always thought Morrigan was cute and unique. Enjoy!

[EDIT]

Just finished this, too. I didn't want to blog two in one day. It makes me feel...wasteful? XD

mmm, fresh blog.

That's right kiddies, I now have one. :D

Though I'd like to mainly use this to showcase my capstone step by step, this evening I would like to show the progression of my watamelon girlie.  She's the first thing I've drawn AND FINISHED for fun in a long time, so I naturally took a little longer and paid more attention to what I was doing.

As most masterpieces, it started with a sketch.

I prefer to start with blue pencil on paper because it feels more natural...and I'm SUPER messy. The ballpoint pen is just for clarification...and to cure the boredom that was the last day of hard surface modeling class.

Next I go into Photoshop and kind of clean it up...
Next

The final line art, and the revision. I realized she was a little pointed in places and her arm was practically her leg. Still Photoshop.

Yay illustrator!
My first two variations. the right was the original, my soft color scheme was inspired by the lovely artist pyawakit from deviantART and the left was the same image with a purple color burn. It was kind of fun, but not a popular as the original.

After polling the two images and tweaking the winner, I came up with this. It could probably use a texture or two, but overall I'm quite satisfied.

Well guys, that's it. Hopefully I didn't sound too pompous or scare you away with the incredible cuteness.  If you'd like to see more, you should most definitely start following this blog and/or hit me up through one of my other sites. G'night!
